A Little About Me
My Practice
I believe that real change begins when we make space not only for the parts of ourselves we readily accept, but also for the parts we have learned to hide. The vulnerable part, the sad part, the frightened part, the hopeful part, and the part that still longs to be understood.
My approach is warm, relational, and collaborative. I see therapy as a space where we can become curious about the patterns, experiences, and relationships that have shaped us, and the ways these continue to influence how we think, feel, relate, and move through the world today.
Many of the ways we learn to cope develop for good reasons. They may once have helped us survive difficult experiences or relationships. Over time, however, those same patterns can begin to feel restrictive, affecting our relationship with ourselves and those closest to us. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, I am interested in understanding what may be happening beneath the surface and helping people make sense of their experiences with compassion and honesty.
I work with both individuals and couples. I particularly enjoy working with people who are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves, their relationships, and the patterns that shape their lives. This may include people experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, relationship difficulties, trauma, or simply a sense that something is not quite working despite their best efforts.
While insight is important, I do not believe it is always enough on its own. Meaningful change often happens through experience, reflection, and the therapeutic relationship itself. My hope is that therapy can create the possibility for greater freedom, connection, and choice.
What I'm Like
My approach is warm, relational, and collaborative. I see therapy as something we do together rather than something that is done to you.
I am a warm therapist, and I am also a direct one. While theory informs my work, I do not believe therapy can be reduced to technique alone. At its heart, therapy is a relationship between two people. I pay close attention not only to what is said, but also to what is felt, what is avoided, and what emerges between us in the room.
While I offer compassion and support, I also bring curiosity, honesty, and gentle challenge to our work. Together, we can explore patterns, experiences, and ways of relating that may be difficult to see on your own.
I also believe that being in this profession places us in a privileged position. It is therefore important to me that I continue my own personal and therapeutic journey. I cannot ask my clients to search for truths within themselves if I am not willing to do so myself.
I believe clients deserve more than a therapist hidden behind a professional role. While clear boundaries are important, I bring my authentic self to the work and see the therapeutic relationship as a genuine human encounter. I believe I owe my clients my presence, honesty, and full engagement in the process.
Although I take the work seriously, I do not believe therapy needs to feel overly formal or clinical. There is room for warmth, humour, and genuine human connection alongside reflection, insight, and deeper exploration.
What Can You Expect From My Sessions
My sessions are tailored to the individual or couple sitting in front of me, so there is no one-size-fits-all approach. While some clients come with a specific issue they would like to focus on, others arrive with a more general sense of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure why they continue to experience the same difficulties.
Our work together is guided by curiosity rather than judgement. We will explore not only what is happening in the present, but also the patterns, experiences, and relationships that may be shaping your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and ways of relating today.
I believe that many of the ways we learn to cope develop for good reasons. They may once have helped us survive difficult experiences or relationships. Over time, however, those same patterns can begin to feel restrictive. Therapy can help bring these patterns into awareness, creating the possibility for greater understanding, choice, and change.
While gaining insight is important, I do not believe insight alone is always enough. Many of us develop ways of coping because certain emotions, needs, or experiences felt too overwhelming, unsafe, or unsupported when they first arose. As a result, we learn to adapt, protect ourselves, and carry on.
An important part of therapy is creating space for the emotions that may not have been possible to feel, express, or make sense of at the time. By gradually turning towards these experiences, rather than continuing to avoid or manage them, new possibilities for healing, change, and greater freedom can emerge.
The therapeutic relationship can become an important part of this process, offering opportunities to notice, understand, and work with familiar ways of relating as they emerge.
Some sessions may feel reflective and exploratory, while others may be more focused and practical. Together, we will work at a pace that feels manageable, creating space for both understanding and meaningful change.
Our first session
Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it is natural to feel nervous, uncertain, or unsure of what to expect.
The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know one another and to explore what has brought you to therapy at this point in your life. We will talk about your current difficulties, any relevant experiences or relationships, and what you hope may be different as a result of therapy.
There is no expectation that you arrive knowing exactly what is wrong or what you want to work on. Many people come with a clear issue they would like help with, while others simply have a sense that something is not quite working despite their best efforts.
The initial consultation also provides an opportunity for you to get a sense of me and how I work. Finding the right therapist is important, and I believe it is helpful for both of us to have space to consider whether we feel like a good fit.
