A Little About Me

My Practice
Hello, I am Zalfa, a Counselling Psychologist. At the heart of my work, I strive to create a warm and empathetic space for individuals from all walks of life. I support clients facing a variety of challenges, including self-esteem issues, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and low mood. Additionally, I have substantial experience working with complex mental health difficulties such as complex trauma, substance misuse, and gender-based violence. My work within the NHS and various third-sector organisations have particularly centred on supporting the LGBTQI+ community and individuals affected by gendered violence. I am registered with the HCPC and BPS.
What I'm Like
As a Lebanese-British psychologist fluent in Arabic and French, my multicultural background enriches my practice, though my primary working language is English. Being a part of the LGBTQI+ community myself, I am also deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and affirming therapeutic environment. My lived experiences have cultivated a particular interest in holistic therapeutic approaches, which consider all aspects of a person’s life to facilitate long-term positive change in a culturally sensitive and empowering way.

What Can You Expect From My Sessions

My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from multiple modalities to meet each client's unique needs. These include psychodynamic therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), person-centred therapy, systemic therapy, compassion-focused therapy, and trauma-informed approaches. Whether you're facing specific issues or more ambiguous feelings, therapy can be a valuable tool for understanding current patterns, developing coping skills to manage difficult emotions, and nurturing our inherent strengths.

Our first session

I warmly welcome conversations with anyone considering their first step towards improved mental well-being. I offer a free 15-30 minute consultation to get to know each other and for you to ask any questions you may have. The different therapeutic modalities I offer can be discussed and explained in our consultation. It would be a pleasure and a privilege to work with you on your journey towards healing and growth. If you chose to continue working with me, our first session will look more like an assessment, where I will be more directive and structured with how I run the session. Following our first session, the structure is more fluid and guided by you.
